Acupuncture is commonly known to remove blockages and stimulate the Qi running through the meridians of the body. Often this involves the insertion of thin sterile needles into the skin at various depths but this isn't always the case. There are 4 main styles of acupuncture used at flow:
MEDICAL Acupuncture is best for physical injury and physical needles are used,
TCM Acupuncture (Traditional Chinese Medicine) treats by bringing harmony and balance to the whole body system,
SPIRITUAL Acupuncture is best for spiritual development,
and
INTUITIVE Acupuncture, a form of needle-less contact free acupuncture that is not confined to the physical body and may be done from a distance.

Spiritual Acupuncture points are typically activated using Intuitive Acupuncture and TCM acupuncture points are typically activated using physical needles however both Spiritual and TCM acupuncture can be applied using either physical needles or Intuitive Acupuncture or a combination of the two.

All in-person acupuncture appointments will start with a discussion with your therapist as to your goals, preferences, and expectations to come up with a suitable treatment plan.

Measurements are taken of the limb(s) in question then an appropriate compression garment(s) is recommended. The garment(s) are then ordered in order to treat and prevent lymphatic and circulatory disorders i.e. lymphedema, lipedema and varicose veins. Once the garments arrives the garment fitter will ensure a good fit and instruct the client on how to properly don and doff the garment as well as proper care of the garment. Our apologies, due to limited storage space we do not keep stock of readymade garments, we do not have the capability to provide garments on the same day as the fitting session.
The College of Massage Therapists of BC has ruled that compression as an integral part in the treatment of lymphatic disorders as well as many venous ones is considered massage therapy when provided by a registered massage therapist. A receipt for these appointments will be given as massage therapy as all of our garment fitters are also registered massage therapists.

Melissa has close to 2 decades of experience as a healthcare professional. With a yearning to better understand the body’s ability to heal itself, Melissa has pursued extensive training domestically and internationally in several disciplines such as hydrotherapy (scrubs, wraps, and hot rock massage), Thai massage, Muscle Energy Technique, Craniosacral Therapy, and Visceral Manipulation. She has even taken some training in energy therapies such as Reiki and BodyTalk.

While Melissa has a rather diverse set of interests, one of her true passions lie in how manual lymph drainage (MLD) is able to create an environment of healing inside the body. A decade ago, Melissa received her certification through Vodder International as a MLD/CDT therapist. Not satisfied with just bringing edema clients’ swelling down to a minimum, Melissa was determined to provide her clients a solution that would contain the edema. Naturally, she sought out extra training with Mediven Canada to become a compression garment fitter.

When Melissa is not in the office, she can be found ferrying two young children between their various after school activities, volunteering at the school, enjoying a hot drink with friends, skiing, singing, or creating ethnically diverse recipes for friends and family.

After a career in the environmental and fisheries sector, I decided that it was time for a change. In 2020, I went back to school to become a massage therapist, and I graduated from Vancouver College of Massage Therapy. While still in school I got introduced to Manual lymphatic drainage, I knew that I wanted to learn more about this method.

Therefore in 2023 I completed the full Vodder Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) course.

Born and raised in Reunion Island (French Island), I moved to Canada in 2013 and settled in Vancouver, making it my new home. When not working, I enjoys being close to the water, doing CrossFit, cycling, gardening and spending time with my dog “Crouton”.

I presently direct bill for Pacific Blue Cross and all companies supported through Telus Health eClaims.

Miyuki graduated from Vancouver Collage of Massage Therapy and carries a passion to support her patient’s recovery process from the most vulnerable stages to one of full health. That passion led her to attain a full certification of the Vodder Method of Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) and Combined Decongestive Therapy (CDT) which allows to treat conditions such as Primary and Secondary Lymphedema, Lipidema, Venous insufficiency, Non-infected inflammatory conditions (e.g. sprains and strains), Chronic sinusitis, Dermatological conditions, CRPS (RSD), Burns/wounds, Pre- and post- plastic surgery, scars, and concussions.

She also supports patients with self care techniques and exercise programs in order for the patient to take charge of their recovery process.

“What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” ~ Jane Goodall

There’s nothing more rewarding than helping someone in pain or discomfort feel better immediately, and that’s why I chose to become an RMT. With a foundation in evidence-based therapy techniques, I take a general “whole person” approach when it comes to treatment planning, but let the patient choose the specific techniques they find the most helpful. I always encourage the patient to take an active role in their healing journey, supporting them with education, self-care and movement tips and tricks.

I graduated from Vancouver College of Massage Therapy in 2014 and completed the full Vodder Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) course in 2016. I have taken extra courses in Lymph Taping and Scar Tissue treatment, as well as ongoing updates in Pain Science and MLD.

Massage aimed at reducing fat and sculpting your body. This technique is non-invasive with little down time to recover. Localized inflammation of the tissue is created over a few hours to help empty the contents of the fat cells. This does not remove or kill fat cells. Tenderness and inflammation lasts up to a week; eventually the fat will be absorbed while the skin regenerates and retracts with the fat loss. Full results are achieved after 8 weeks.

ANTI-CELLULITE MASSAGE / HONEY MASSAGE

Honey is becoming one of my most favourite things out there. Aside from the health benefits of simply ingesting and putting honey on your skin, when combined with specific massage techniques it’s a great way to bring blood flow and oxygen to your tissues. Increased oxygen means increased metabolism and that means fat loss! Blood flow also helps create healthier skin creating stronger collagen and elastin!

Cellulite is a combination of factors such as genetics, lifestyle choices and fat. Woman carry fat under their skin making it easier for irregularities to push through to the surface. I offer treatments that target the health of your skin and reduce the amount of fat in the area. All of my treatments are best paired with a healthy lifestyle such as exercise, clean eating and optimal hydration. You may see results without these factors but it may come back faster if you don’t.

I also offer more intense targeted treatments for Cellulite Reduction. These treatments can be done separately but doing them together will likely give you the best results. Honey massage can be used to treat cellulite and skin health, fat disorders such a Lipedema and help your body to reduce fat in the treated areas. These treatments are not a one off; weekly appointments for 4-6 weeks to start are suggested to start.

FAQ

How long does the fat reduction last?

This is all based on your genetics and lifestyle. If you keep the weight off and eat clean/stay hydrated the results could last 6 months to 6 years.

Is it painful?

During treatment a large amount of blood rushes to the area and acts as an analgesic and helps to numb but tenderness usually occurs towards the end of treatment. The treated area will then be tender for a few days after but usually only to the touch.

Is this service covered under RMT or extended health benefits?

Unfortunately not. ManuSculpt/Cellulite Massage falls under body sculpting and is out of the scope of practice for RMTs.

Who is a good candidate?

Honey Massage is not good for varicose veins or Chronic Venus Insufficiency, people on blood thinners or skin issues such as rashes

(she/hers) Originally from Germany, I graduated from the West Coast College of Massage Therapy in 2006 and have experience treating various conditions and pathologies. For over a decade, I have also been extensively involved in teaching massage therapy and instructing in student clinics. This led me to travel to Austria’s Vodder Academy to become certified in MANUAL LYMPH DRAINAGE AND COMBINED DECONGESTIVE THERAPY. I am very interested in scar management and have also taken continued training in scar treatment and burn scar massage. In 2005 I decided to return to school after a long time desire to work in the massage therapy profession. I enrolled in a 1200 hour Spa Practitioner program at WCCMT. Upon graduation I transferred into their 3000 hour massage therapy program. I graduated in 2008 and have continued to work as a BC Registered Massage Therapist since then. During school I was fortunate enough to work at the Burn & Trauma unit at VGH, a senior care home and at Barclay Manor Community Centre. In 2019 I completed additional education from the Dr. Vodder method of Manual Lymphatic drainage (MLD). I have been providing lymphatic care to a wide range of clients presenting with, but not limited to, edema, lymphedema, concussions, migraines, and digestive issues, and those just in need of relaxation. As of April 2023 I completed a Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Dysfunction workshop aka ‘Simply TMJ’. I enjoy the personal interaction and designing a personalized treatment plan for each client. It’s an ideal alternative treatment that provides clients relief from symptoms; physical, emotional and mental stresses and without medication.

This is a valuable and therapeutic profession that is unquestionably rewarding. When someone comes to me for help, I’m truly honoured. I use my education and training to better people’s lives and knowing that I’ve had an impact on the health of others confirms my efforts are impacting individuals. At the end of my day, I can say I made a difference by easing somebody’s distress and to me that’s a privilege. When not at work I’m researching and planning my next travel adventure and/or attending music concerts.

For nearly 3 years, I have redirected my focus to face massage and the infamous Buccal Massage. Addressing tension in the face has a profound effect on our health, treating many issues such as headaches, jaw tension, TMJ Dysfunction and bringing blood flow to promote health in an area that is very much ignored in the massage scene! I’M ONLY ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS FOR FACE MASSAGE.
