Occupational Therapy (OT) in British Columbia focuses on helping individuals of all ages participate in meaningful activities and improve their independence, health, and quality of life. Occupational therapists in BC are regulated health professionals who assess physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges that may result from injury, illness, surgery, or chronic conditions, and provide evidence-based interventions to support recovery and daily function.

When combined with Vodder Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) — a gentle, specialized hands-on technique that stimulates the lymphatic system — Occupational Therapy can address a broader range of physical rehabilitation goals. The Vodder MLD method, developed by Dr. Emil Vodder, helps reduce swelling (edema), promote lymph flow, decrease pain, and enhance tissue healing following surgery, trauma, or chronic conditions such as lymphedema and fibromyalgia.

Lymphatic Massage Therapy, very light and rhythmic stretching of the skin in a specific pattern that is designed to stimulate lymph flow and drain the affected tissue of excess water and protein. This can help people with lymphedema, traumatic injuries, headaches, pregnancy, skin conditions, arthralgias, insomnia and to reduce swelling associated with surgeries. Please note that lymphatic drainage can increase the blood volume by up to 10%. As such organ diseases such as CCHF, COPD, kidney and liver disease, are not compatible with lymphatic drainage. If you have a history of organ dysfunction, untreated DVT or an active infection please contact the clinic before booking.

Traditional Massage Therapy, the manual manipulation of the soft tissues of the body, specifically , the muscles, connective tissues, tendons, ligaments and joints for the purpose of optimizing health. Each Registered Massage Therapist will use a unique to them combination of Swedish massage techniques and more advanced techniques learned through continued education to assess and treat issues brought forward by the clients.

Measurements are taken of the limb(s) in question then an appropriate compression garment(s) is recommended. The garment(s) are then ordered in order to treat and prevent lymphatic and circulatory disorders i.e. lymphedema, lipedema and varicose veins. Once the garments arrives the garment fitter will ensure a good fit and instruct the client on how to properly don and doff the garment as well as proper care of the garment. Our apologies, due to limited storage space we do not keep stock of readymade garments, we do not have the capability to provide garments on the same day as the fitting session.
The College of Massage Therapists of BC has ruled that compression as an integral part in the treatment of lymphatic disorders as well as many venous ones is considered massage therapy when provided by a registered massage therapist. A receipt for these appointments will be given as massage therapy as all of our garment fitters are also registered massage therapists. Rates for garment fitting appointments for 1h and 45 min sessions will increase to match those of lymphatic massage therapy on Feb. 1, 2026.

(she/hers) Originally from Germany, I graduated from the West Coast College of Massage Therapy in 2006 and have experience treating various conditions and pathologies. For over a decade, I have also been extensively involved in teaching massage therapy and instructing in student clinics. During a period of extensive and repeated surgeries due to skin cancer, I realized how invaluable MLD treatment is not just pre and post-surgery but also in the management of tissue health and scarring thereafter. This led me to travel to Austria’s Vodder Academy to become certified in MANUAL LYMPH DRAINAGE AND COMBINED DECONGESTIVE THERAPY. I am very interested in scar management and have also taken continued training in scar treatment and burn scar massage. I support clients with edema prevention/management, pre/post-surgery, including gender-affirming surgery. I have experience treating spinal cord injuries and other CNS conditions. Please be aware that ou I provide a trauma-informed, LGBTQ-friendly and Trans Safe space. Please note that our office is on the 18th floor with two gendered washrooms. The only accessible washrooms are located on the main floor. You can contact me at elli_klaus@hotmail.com for questions or pre-booking consultations. You can also book with me on Wednesdays at: PARAMED HEALTH COLLECTIVE at 1200 Burrard Street.

I first came across manual lymph drainage as part of my decade-long journey of trying to find a remedy for my chronic and, at times, severe eczema. After my first MLD treatment, I noticed my skin was less red and less itchy, and I felt a sense of calm in my mind and body. That experience, as well as realizing how important and underappreciated the health of our lymphatic system is, led me to pursue training with the Dr. Vodder School of MLD. As an RMT and self-proclaimed “continuing education addict,” I have always enjoyed relieving patients of their aches and pains. MLD has helped me to expand my knowledge of the body and find new and creative ways of helping my clients.

Since completing my Vodder training, I have used MLD to help support people with post-surgery (cancer, orthopedic, cosmetic) swelling and pain, lymphedema, bloating/water retention, chronic sinusitis, CRPS (RSD), and acute strains/sprains. Due to my lived experience, I am particularly interested in skin health, digestion, and stress management as they are connected and benefit from both traditional and MLD massage.

My approach to treatment planning is collaborative, and I am happy to use MLD, traditional massage, or both to address your complaints. I believe that the treatment begins from the moment you enter the treatment room and strive to create a calm, safe and welcoming treatment space for all.

I have had a lifelong interest in health and wellness even before becoming an RMT. I spent many years teaching and competing in ballroom dance and being a personal trainer. In my spare time, I lift weights, dance, play with my dog (Bella), and continue to experience all the joys and challenges of being a father.

I am happy to answer any questions you might have and look forward to working with you!

As part of my ongoing education, I have completed the following courses:

o Dermoneuromodulation (DNM)

o Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM)

o Dr. Vodder School of MLD:

• Level 1 – Basic

• Level 2 – Applied MLD

• Level 3 – Lymphedema

o Postural Restoration Institute (PRI):

• Postural Respiration

• Myokinematic Restoration

• Pelvis Restoration

• Impingement & Instability

• Primary Non-Manual Techniques Workshop

o Simply TMJ

o Visceral Manipulation 1

In 2005 I decided to return to school after a long time desire to work in the massage therapy profession. I enrolled in a 1200 hour Spa Practitioner program at WCCMT. Upon graduation I transferred into their 3000 hour massage therapy program. I graduated in 2008 and have continued to work as a BC Registered Massage Therapist since then. During school I was fortunate enough to work at the Burn & Trauma unit at VGH, a senior care home and at Barclay Manor Community Centre. In 2019 I completed additional education from the Dr. Vodder method of Manual Lymphatic drainage (MLD). I have been providing lymphatic care to a wide range of clients presenting with, but not limited to, edema, lymphedema, concussions, migraines, and digestive issues, and those just in need of relaxation. As of April 2023 I completed a Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) Dysfunction workshop aka ‘Simply TMJ’. I enjoy the personal interaction and designing a personalized treatment plan for each client. It’s an ideal alternative treatment that provides clients relief from symptoms; physical, emotional and mental stresses and without medication.

This is a valuable and therapeutic profession that is unquestionably rewarding. When someone comes to me for help, I’m truly honoured. I use my education and training to better people’s lives and knowing that I’ve had an impact on the health of others confirms my efforts are impacting individuals. At the end of my day, I can say I made a difference by easing somebody’s distress and to me that’s a privilege. When not at work I’m researching and planning my next travel adventure and/or attending music concerts.

Melissa has close to 2 decades of experience as a healthcare professional. With a yearning to better understand the body’s ability to heal itself, Melissa has pursued extensive training domestically and internationally in several disciplines such as hydrotherapy (scrubs, wraps, and hot rock massage), Thai massage, Muscle Energy Technique, Craniosacral Therapy, and Visceral Manipulation. She has even taken some training in energy therapies such as Reiki and BodyTalk.

While Melissa has a rather diverse set of interests, one of her true passions lie in how manual lymph drainage (MLD) is able to create an environment of healing inside the body. A decade ago, Melissa received her certification through Vodder International as a MLD/CDT therapist. Not satisfied with just bringing edema clients’ swelling down to a minimum, Melissa was determined to provide her clients a solution that would contain the edema. Naturally, she sought out extra training with Mediven Canada to become a compression garment fitter.

When Melissa is not in the office, she can be found ferrying two young children between their various after school activities, volunteering at the school, enjoying a hot drink with friends, skiing, singing, or creating ethnically diverse recipes for friends and family.

Miyuki graduated from Vancouver Collage of Massage Therapy and carries a passion to support her patient’s recovery process from the most vulnerable stages to one of full health.
